“Should Cigarette Companies Promote their Products to the Youth?”

Cigarette smoking has always been a subject of debate for many people all over the world. It has stimulated the mind in many ways especially the issue of whether cigarette companies promote their products to the youth. Smokers and non-smokers alike will suffer the consequences of decisions and attitudes of people revolving around this issue. Many health related issues will arise not acutely at first but will manifest at a later date. Does the delay of the appearance of health problems justify their actions? What will be the risks after 10 years when youth starts smoking before 18 years of age? One could claim that marketing cigarette products to the youth is simply too much to handle.

First let us examine what prompted cigarette companies to come up with this decision. “Younger adults are the only source of replacement smokers” (RJ Reynolds). This means to say that as people age – while smoking – signs and consequences of this decision will begin to show. As a result, they wouldn’t be as enthusiastic as they were when they started smoking. This is what many cigarette companies try to avoid. If they want to keep their business thriving and prospering, they need younger adults which will require brand new form of marketing.

True – from the industry’s point of view, this may just be the right thing to do. After all, they just mean business and this is nothing personal for them. Without overanalyzing and putting things under simple perspective, cigarette companies are just doing what they need to do to keep up with the current market.

But nothing justifies the consequences that will happen in the future. On the surface, this may be an acceptable proposition for many cigarette companies though on second thought they are just taking advantage of our youth – the hope of the future.

Why do teens smoke? "Kids are vulnerable to smoking because the transition to adulthood is fraught with stress, insecurity, and the need to be accepted by peers. If kids see smokers who they think are cool or look grown-up, they may strive for that image, too” (Lang and Marks). Judging from this, kids are innocent victims of the adult driven world. Cigarette companies know this vulnerability and weakness and this is the reason why they target this specific market. They know they can earn money from them more than they can from adults who know what they are doing and have other priorities in life already.

However, kids don’t realize they are vulnerable and weak. They often have these overly positive views about themselves. They often think they are invincible. But more than that, they are curious beings. Some kids start smoking not because they have weaker resolve about what’s right or wrong. They start because they are curious what it is like to have a taste of the smoke they often see. Before they realize it, they have already been hooked.

Many cigarette companies are only being practical and realistic and this is the same point of argument that they already lost. Selling something to the market only for financial profit and uncaring about the risks and other major consequences that smoking will result to is bad enough. But marketing it to the youth – taking advantage of their weakness and the largest naïve group in the world – is simply unacceptable.

“Among the 419,000 Americans who died from smoking in 1990, for example, 151,000 died of cancer” (National Cancer Policy Board). If this is the statistics 21 years ago, what then will the numbers be 21 years from now if cigarette smoking is promoted further to the youth? It is time for this industry to stop causing menace to the population’s health. It is simply not the case today anymore. What if the younger adults who started smoking today will no longer produce enough number of offspring in the future? Who then will they market their products for if the dangers of smoking manifest at a later date and affect reproduction?

It is therefore not right for manufacturing companies to promote their products to the younger population for whatever reason they can think of. Reduction, prevention and cessation of cigarette smoking can lead to better health, lifestyle and perhaps better economy in the near future. Manufacturing companies should then find some other means for them to do business without risking the health of many. Surely, they can find other business endeavor that will bring them monetary gain, prestige and success. It would mean that the world will become a better place to live in without smoke, without pollution and at least eradicating one risk factor for diseases.

Do you always let your thoughts and mind control you without considering what your body has to say?

Are you too dependent on your human nature to think and rely on logic that you somehow forget that your body and your intuition are still vital parts of who you really are?

It is time to recognize the subtle patterns in your life and realize that when you rely too much in your mind, you will be in the anxious state and you will forget how to take good care of yourself, your spirit and your flesh.

Let’s dig deeper into the real meaning of this by reassessing what line of thoughts you had yesterday and what you have had today and take note of the details especially thoughts that make you feel down and low. There are many things that will prevent you from reconnecting to your body such as illnesses, poor self-image, societal restrictions, miscarriage, idiopathic weight gain, hormonal changes and overflowing intellectual arguments. All of these things could disintegrate us from our bodies and fail to recognize the wisdom sown within.

There may be some part of you, somewhere deep down inside, that is afraid of losing control. That if you loosen your grip a little, you would feel that everything else will be compromised such as your finances, missing wonderful opportunities and fail your reasoning abilities. The fact is that when you let your wisdom guide you, you are actually treading the path of becoming your genuine self and achieve full confidence to make the things you desire in your life happen.

Reconnecting to your innate wisdom can be a challenge and it does not happen right away especially when you have been busy in entertaining logic and reasoning too much. The only way you can tap into your wisdom is to start practicing to use it so that you can be comfortable with its presence again. Stop and take some time off: Your life is a vicious cycle where you can get caught up in one of the webs. You become too busy running errands, make lists, socializing and working that your brain could not handle the strain. If you learn how to stop and take some time off your busy life – without mails, calls or household chores – you are actually creating a breathing room so that positive energy will start flowing in again. Your brain can relax and rest while your body follows. It is not necessary to make prolonged break time. Even a few minutes off from your day while you enjoy silence and tea or be soothed with music is enough. If your work requires you to work long time, you might want to take 5-minute breaks in between. You will never know what it feels like to take a break unless you try one!

Stay physically fit: Take the time to nurture your body to stay physically fit by engaging in activities that you consider fun and relaxing. A simple combination of deep and shallow breathing while sitting in a comfortable chare will actually give you the same benefits.

Make use of your Five Senses: Have you ever been too busy about your life that you forget what it was like to fully immerse yourself into your surroundings and feelings? Can you recall the exact time and location when you started noticing the intricate details of your furniture and the way the sun shine into your room? Can you remember how great it is to listen to the way birds sing and the sense of peace while your cat purrs on your lap? The more you face life by using your five senses, the more you will become aware of your body and reawaken the person within you that you have put to sleep because of your busy life.

Pamper yourself: Getting a full body massage is not only a means to pamper yourself but it is also a way for you to allow positive energy flowing into your mind and into your body. If you add drinking lots of water in the equation, it will complete the formula.

I know how valuable these practices are basing on my own experience! At some point, when I was just fresh and starting, I often feel like I am constantly agitated, stuck, exhausted and overwhelmed. I could hardly remember if I did something worthwhile despite convincing myself of my constant efforts. After a while, I realized that I was just relying too much on my thinking abilities that I completely missed the things that really matter! I stopped making decisions basing from my intuition and wisdom and I have not taken care of myself ever since!

Therefore, I made a radical change in my life and that is to prioritize my overall well-being over what lies ahead. I decided to stop and take time even a few hours of my daily schedule devoted solely for myself. I started spending time relaxing in yoga classes, taking peaceful walks, pampering myself, meditating and anything and everything that makes my soul and body reunite again. These little things made big changes in my life and everyday I felt more and more becoming my genuine self that make me regain back my passion and energy. The results of these little shifts are also radical! I have been more productive and I could spend a few extra hours for myself as well because I developed a system that made me function more efficiently without compromising any aspect of my being. I know that this amazing thing resulted from giving me the time and space to fully immerse my mind to my body while filtering out unproductive and negative thoughts aside.

In the last Lifestyle Development coaching, I told you the importance of being connected to your purpose and your heart’s desire so that you can be successful with whatever endeavor you choose to undergo. It led us to this important realization – your fears are the walls that you need to go through in order for you to become successful and obtain the happiness you wish to pursue.

I have faith in you no matter who you are or from where came from. I know that within your heart you have a deep sense and desire to demonstrate your fullest potential and show the world what you are capable of. Even if you are a modest person, deep within you is a person who wants to break free and show off what you can do especially in performing wonderful things so people can recognize you.

The only obstacle that your inner self is facing right now is your conscious fear of becoming big that the person within you is stuck at being small. For instance, your business has the potential of expanding and getting big but you just do not visualize it like that. Or, you have the capacity and the skill to assist others but you do not offer them any workshops to help them improve. Or, you have been a successful volunteer in an organization and you know you can still do many things but you chose to lay low and avoid taking the reign of leadership. Or, you have been keeping notes of wonderful events of your life that you can share yet you chose to keep them all as notes – unpublished and unknown to most.

The Glory of a Wife and a Mother

There is really nothing that can replace a family in this world. There are things that you can ignore but when the need of a family arises, you are there. There will be no question of whys. You always make yourself free and available whenever a family member is in need.

I am a working mother. I work for my family so that I can provide them what they need. I work because I need to and I want my husband to concentrate graduating in his studies in medicine and eventually in time when he already is settled into his professional career I could just sit back and relax.

I had been in Medicine School too. I had three years there and only one more year of internship before I could graduate and take up the post-graduate internship. I had to make a choice between family and career and I chose family making me give up my life long dream to become a doctor. I have to sacrifice my dream for my family but I it was all worth it. I had no regrets giving it up for the meantime.

In the future when everything is settled and I still have that dream, perhaps I will pursue it and become the doctor that I really wanted to be. In God's will and in God's precious time I will be able to achieve the dreams that are set out for me. It may or may not be the same as I had dreamt before I settled down but it will be a dream not only for myself but for my family too.

I learned a lot, wept some but most of all I have been happy and still am even after all the sacrifices I made. It was after all for all the love of my life that I can never trade for anything. I could continue sacrificing more if needed be.

For all the sacrifice, for every tear shed, for every pain felt and for all the laughter shared, these are the glory of being a wife and a mother.

I do not know what got into me. Suddenly there is this rush of pain in my heart just seeing your face. Who shall hug me when I am crying because of some emo telenovela? Who will endure my madness over anime and other craziness? Who will I call when I am afraid of "Sadako" and "One Missed Call" ghosts? Who will accompany me to do eating spree? My tears are so shallow, they got mind of their own. I have not come to hate it. In fact, it is somehow a part of me and part of my existence. But now why? Why can't these tears just flow out and be gone into mute's bitter lips? Why should I endure this pain as if I am alone? This is so un-ME.

Although I know that you will be gone for a year, I just know that deep in my heart that no matter how long or how far you are, the only one person who is taking my heart with him will be you. No more buts, no more what ifs instead I will just wait till I see the light in your face again. I will miss you.

Mastering the Art of Music

Most of us have not yet discovered our hidden romance with music and making it. Personally, playing guitar has only been my past time but never really had any passion regarding it. I tried composing one or two songs but it seems to be just a product of illusion and mediocrity. There is no real thing in every single one of them. There just no soul in those music. I stand in awe for people who make music as easily as eating. Perhaps, I just did not take it too personally either that or the fact that I really do not have music inclination at all.

But here let us talk about some pointers that I realize just by looking back in my experience trying to get in tune with music. We will go through them one by one.

I should have the ability to read music per se. That is the number one trick or perhaps one stair up geared towards mastering music which I really cannot say I have all this time. But if you count being able to read chords as part of it then perhaps I have the skill to know it, although I might just need time. Guitar is my favorite instrument of all and the basic foundation of learning it should be having the ability to read music.

I should learn the techniques on how to play guitar, that as much as the ability to read music is very much essential in mastering the art of music. I watched many guitarists who have queer and unique techniques in order for them to go through a series of chords without actually breaking the sound for which I have not yet mastered until now. I have really not been able to learn techniques on exactly how I can continue playing chords in different frets without breaking them.

I should learn how to learn to play individual notes as well as combining them to produce chords. I know specifically how to play chords but I do not know how to individually play the notes and worst, I do not even know how to group them to produce the sound. I know it is funny but sometimes, when you are serious to learn something, you need to be learning the details and go into information you can get about the subject. Otherwise, it is not complete learning at all.

I should get to know my guitar well in order for us to get along with each other like it being a part of me and me, being a part of it. However, this is something that I have not done when I was learning how to play the guitar because basically I learned playing the instrument using someone else’s guitar and not my own. So basically I have not established a time or something to get us to know each other. Because of this reason, I can say that I have yet to get my own guitar before I can actually go master the music.

Basketball Olympics Correspondent

I did not know when I started really putting passion on writing about sports until I started writing about Beijing Olympics Basketball update. I actually had so much fun going on while watching the game and writing about it afterwards. It is not about the money that I am talking about but well it could be a part of it because I wouldn't have started writing about basketball had not been about the Olympics.

Since the Olympics started, I have so much been going through including studying how to be a correspondent and how to write sports news. Well, I had been a news writer once in my University days but that is not actually a formal writing spree that I had been. It was only the University publication where I might just be wanting to be part of.

But lately, it was so much different. Writing articles about anything has just become a habit, although of course most of the time I am not earning anything from it. But well, it is a start. I just love writing. I love when words just flow on my head and comes alive on paper like some image.

This has all been for the of writing.

i have longed to feel your touch, to see your smile

i longed to talk to you and see you laugh
to make my world survive the tough.

it seems a little crazy to want something like this
to watch while dancing not knowing what to feel
it seems like I'm making friends with shadows
i see you but you'd go away if i ever get near.

I, to be blamed; I, to be laughed at
wishing and hoping you'd feel the same for me
I, to be looked down, to be forgotten
my existence for you will never be significant.

but even then i still smile at the thought
that perhaps even just once I've made a difference
that maybe i had made your life colorful
with my craziness, silliness and most of all
the undying memory i had with you.

And just like that I have shared my deepest thoughts. Something that I haven't done for so long. Something that I always ignore; the other side of me.

How I Landed in My Full-Time Work Online

I am just a housewife. Although I completed Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology and passed the consequent Licensure Examination, I do not feel like pursuing that career. I find it better to stay at home and take care of my kids. I started browsing websites that offer home based job vacancy. Primarily, I had experience with medical transcription however that did not last for long because of stress of the work.

I hopped in from one site to another like bestjobs.ph and sulit.com.ph. I had my first job as home based telemarketer or most commonly known as call center agent. At first it was fun, though it made me rethink that decision later because the work was overly demanding and I hardly have enough sleep.

A friend of mine suggested I set up a profile in getafreelancers.com and odesk.com and apply for job offers there. I kept applying for available work vacancy every week. I grew weary and got very bored applying over and over for various work related to my expertise but I was in dire need of money so I kept going. It took about a month before some buyer really noticed my existence.

I became a virtual assistant in odesk.com. The job entails internet research, MS Excel and MS Word familiarity and literacy. I did it for about 1 month or so and was successful. The buyer invited me to work for him full time and assist him in various type of work. And that is how I landed in my first full time job online.

How to add EON in your paypal account

Making your Paypal account verified is a fairly easy thing to do. Once you receive your EON card, just follow the steps I specify:

1 - EON accounts take about a week to be activated (that is based on my experience) which means you can deposit to that account but you will not be able to withdraw. The first thing that I did was deposit an amount of 500php in my account. However, when I try to add the card in my Paypal account, I got a message of error. By deduction, the card still cannot be added to the account because it has not been activated by the issuing bank.

2 - I waited a week before I tried to add the card in my Paypal account. I was successful in doing so and obviously it is because obviously my card/account is now activated.

3 - The next thing on the list would be verification. Once you successfully added a card to your Paypal account, it is not the end of the story yet because you are still bound by Paypal limitation. To lift this limitation, you need to verify the account by using the EXPUSE number.

4 - Go to EON online banking and log in to your account. It takes about also a week that you will see that your initial deposit (for mine is 500 php) was deducted an approximate amount of 80 php. Do not worry, this fee will be refunded once you verified your Paypal account.

5 - Next go to the transaction history. From there you will see a list of transaction specifically the last 10 transactions you have made using your account. You will know your EXPUSE number by looking at the transaction list. It will have a transaction description like this: VISA-1234PAYPAL--*EXPUSE SG(840)... The EXPUSE number is a four digit number, by deduction 840 is not your EXPUSE number. From my example, you can see the number before the PAYPAL word which is 1234 is actually your EXPUSE number. Copy this and go to your Paypal account.

6 - Once you are logged in to your Paypal account, follow the link that says verify your account which can be found in your to-do list. You will be prompted to enter your EXPUSE number. Hit enter/confirm (refer to Paypal) and that's it. You will then see that your account has been verified.

It takes a lot of patience before you really can set up your verified Paypal account. For you who are eager to start your online marketing, remember to stretch your patience.
